Snapdeal plans to engage more women entrepreneurs


As per a report, women sellers are mostly active in segments like, apparel, jewellery and home decoration and furnishing.
As per the PTI Report, in order to engage more sellers, Snapdeal, an online retail giant, planning to engage more women on its base and aims them to constitute for around 50% of its merchant base in 2015. At present, approximately 30% of Snapdeal’s sellers are female merchants.
Kunal Bahl, CEO & co-founder of Snapdeal, said “A big focus for us this year would be to bring more women on board our platform. The online medium offers flexibility of working from home and also working hours. Many of these entrepreneurs are balancing their businesses and family life easily.”
According to the report, women sellers are mostly active in segments like jewellery, apparel and home decoration and furnishing.
Currently, Snapdeal has a seller base of around 60,000 merchants.
As per the report, the retailer presently has over 5 million products across 500 different segments and Snapdeal covers more than 40 million people.
Apparel sales on online marketplace continue to capture a greater share of E-commerce retail. This segment, along with the computer and consumer electronics sector, is fuelling the overall market growth.
